    Egypt v Australia [Friendly - 17/11/2010]

Post by ahlycotc on Thu Nov 11, 2010 4:42 pm

    v

    Date: Wednesday 17/11/2010
    Stadium: Cairo International Stadium

    EGYPT

    Squad
Goalkeepers: Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed (Zamalek), Mohamed Sobhi (Ismaili), Amir Abdul-Hamid (Masri)
Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Sherif Abdul-Fadil (Ahli), Mahmoud Fathallah, Mohamed Abdul-Shafi (Zamalek), Ahmed Samir Farag (Ismaili), Mohamed Naguib, Ahmed Duiedar (Police Union)
Midfielders: Ahmed Fathi , Mohamed Abou-Treika (Ahli) Amr Al-Sulaya (Ismaili), Ibrahim Salah, Shikabala (Zamalek), Walid Soliman, Islam Awad (ENPPI), Ahmed Elmohamady (Sunderland, England), Ahmed Eid (Harras Hodoud), Ayman Hefni (MCDR)
Strikers: Geddo(Ahli), Mohamed Zidan (Borussia Dortmund, Germany), Ahmed Abdul-Zaher (ENPPI), Ahmed Mekki (Harras Hodoud)

    Surprise Inclusions
Mohamed Zidan: Zidan recently comes back from a 6 month injury and is called up by Shehata. He hasn't played a single match for Borussia Dortmund since he came back from injury and isn't near full match fitness, making it a very strange decision from the Egyptian coach.

Shikabala: The young midfield wizard deserves a call up to the squad, but it may come as a surprise to many after Shehata's negative comments about Shikabala's attitude recently. It seems Shikabala's recent form in the Egyptian Premier League is too much to ignore.

Amir Abdul-Hamid: The former Ahly reserve backup keeper gets a rare call up for the Egyptian squad due to Hadari's FIFA suspension and Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed's possible recent injury. This means Egypt could start the match with their 3rd choice keeper.

Ibrahim Salah, Islam Awad and Ayman Hefni and Ahmed Duiedar: All four players get their first Egypt call with the last player learning about his call up from the internet!

    Key Players
Wael Gomma: The veteran defender has been one of the top defenders for Egypt and Ahly recently and at 35 is continuing to teach the other defenders and critics that it's not about age.

Shikabala: The young wizard has been in the form of his life and is helping Zamalek return to its glory days. Can he repeat these performances with Egypt? Or will his selfishness and attitude get the better of him?

Ahmed Elmohamady: The only Egyptian in the EPL gets another call up for Egypt after his great performances for Sunderland. But he can't seem to repeat such performances with the national team recently. Maybe playing against a stronger opponent will bring the best out of him.

    Australia

    Squad
Goalkeepers: Mark Schwarzer (Fulham, England), Nathan Coe (Sønderjysk Elitesport, Denmark)
Defenders: David Carney (Blackpool, England), Lucas Neill (Galatasaray, Turkey), Jade North (Wellington Phoenix, New Zealand), Sasa Ognenovski (Seongnam Ilhwa, South Korea), Michael Thwaite (Gold Coast United, Australia), Luke Wilkshire (Dinamoi Moscow, Russia)
Midfielders: Tim Cahill (Everton, England), Jason Culina (Gold Coast United, Australia), Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers, England), Brett Holman (AZAlkmaar, Holland), Mile Jedinak (Genclerbirligi, Turkey), Matt McKay (Brisbane Roar, Australia), Carl Valeri (Sassuolo, Italy), Dario Vidosic (Nurnberg, Germany)
Strikers: Richard Garcia (Hull City, England), Josh Kennedy (Nagoya Grampus, Japan), Harry Kewell (Galatasaray, Turkey), Scott McDonald (Middlesbrough, England)

    Surprise Inclusions

Any Aussies want to help me out with the "surprise inclusions" and "key players" sections?

Australia could really do with a decent striker.

That's a fairly weak Australian squad. Coe, North, Ognenovski, Thwaite and Mckay are not regulars in the Australian team. Whether they play or not is another question. I wish Mckay wasn't in there so he could stay in Australia and help Brisbane win the league.

Yes! Garcia is in the team meaning he probably wont get back till Friday and wont be able to play the game on the Saturday?

Is there even a game on the following Saturday?

I doubt it. Egypt are doing shit recently and we are missing quite a few players due to injury. We will probably start the game with our third choice keeper even. I'm calling an Australian win right now.

Such an enticing matchup of two teams that each predict that the other will win. Grippin' stuff!

We've been playing some good attacking football since our new manager has come in so hopefully we can score a few goals. We won't be intimidated by playing in such a foreign country since we're used to going to strange Asian countries now.

Richard Garcia would like to send his personal thanks to you for sippin' that Haterade. His goal was in honor of you, and the assist was to just prove that the goal was not a fluke. Anytime you might want your club to not be in the relegation zone, Mr. Garcia will have no problem in leading the team.

The friendly is Wednesday. Let's assume Garcia doesn't leave Cairo until Thursday. The flight from Egypt to England probably takes about 3 hours, not to mention going back in time zones. He should definitely be available of the game on Saturday assuming he is fit.

And Garcia just scored for Hull today. Why would you not want him on the team? Laughing

James prefers to stay in Hull's natural position, in the relegation zone. Planks like Richard Garcia who score goals to win games don't help that cause.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this has something to do with Altidore?

Just I remember how James bashed Altidore when he was at Hull last year.

Oh, I am not worried about that. It's just that he bashed a guy that helped his team move out of the relegation zone Smile

Penalty for Egypt. That was the weakest penalty ever! Laughing

Zidan scores the penalty, takes of his shirt and throws it in the crowd. rofl

Now he has to play shirtless for the rest of the match! No, the staff just gave him another jersey.
