I find it funny that people don't actually know what to do at a gym. Laughing

It's hard at first, I never knew what exercises to do my first couple of times. It can be quite intimidating to go into the free-weights area too.

I would assume if it's a persons first time at a gym they would do some research first and see what they need to do to achieve their goals. Why is the free-weights section intimidating?

At my gym, 95% of people in the free weights area don't know what they are doing. There's this 40-ish year old who gets 2kg DB's and does around 200 curls as FAST as he can. wut?

I suppose you don't want to look like a twat with bad form/wrong movements in front of regulars.

The best way to learn is by doing, it's one thing having an idea of exercises and another being able to put them all together into a routine without having done any of the lifts before. Not to mention the fact that you have no idea what sort of weight you can handle until you try.

What Ayvee said for the second bit.

I've been to 3 different gyms and it's the same, they'll show you how to do machines but that's it. Even then it's like, well duh.

So if you said something like "What dumbbell exercises can I do for chest" wouldn't they demonstrate some flyes and stuff?

There is a very good booklet free with Mens Health at the moment detailing 100 exercises you can do. It has them organised in sections for each muscle group.

Also you get a free protein shake with it containing 40g of protein. Smile

Trained chest in my garage and then my friend who is going into basic training for the marines asked me to go for a run with him. I thought I was shit with stamina but pushed myself and ran 6 miles in just over an hour. My legs feel smashed.
