Wenger Ranked Manager of the Decade by FIFA

This is posted in the Arsenal thread but i deem it thread-worthy, its a once a decade thing afterall.

It seems it is time for the Wenger Haters to sit up and listen to this bit of news, as the official FIFA Statistics department, known by the catchy name of International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFTS), have done an in-depth study of all the votes for the first nine years of this decade, and who is top of the list? Arsene Wenger of course!

These figures have been compiled by the IFFTS by the votes every year for the “Top 20″ of The World‘s best National Coach and the “Top 20″ of The World‘s best Club Coach. Each year has been allocated 10% of the tally towards the final rankings. This is because some coaches have been club coaches in some years, and international coaches in other years.

Unsurprisingly the top three in the final places have been solely club coaches (more consistent) but only the first two (Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson) have spent the whole ten years at the one club.

The official Top Ten in the IFFTS rankings are as follows:

1. Arsène Wenger France 142
2. Sir Alexander Ferguson Scotland 133
3. José Mourinho Portugal 115
4. Guus Hiddink Nederland 112
5. Fabio Capello Italia 106
6. Luiz Felipe Scolari Brasil 101
7. Rafael Benítez España 97
8. Carlo Ancelotti Italia 92
9. Marcello Lippi Italia 88
10. Marcelo Alberto Bielsa Argentina 86

Although Wenger may not have won all that many trophies in the last ten years, he has consistently impressed more people than anyone else in the world!

Its no great surprise either that Mourinho is in the top three, and probably closing on Wenger and Ferguson, but there is not enough time for him to catch him this season to stop Wenger being named Manager of the Decade!

Obviously the choice wasnt down to success. If it was Ferguson or Mourinho would of won it.

Depends what you call success, obviously the first half of the decade he was very succesful trophies wise, but overall as a manager the amount of young players he's brought through and are now playing for other clubs all around the world. I mean even our rivals Chelsea have Cole and Anelka as first team players, Wenger nurtured them!! Plus he has been competitive in the EPL and Europe without spending hardly anything while putting out teams that play lovely entertaining football.

Wenger wasn't lying when he said he'd bring us trophies this season, we got one already! Laughing

He has did well in the aspect but fans don't want to see players brought through and then leaving for another club they want the players to stay at Arsenal and bring in trophies.

When you look at the players who have left though, its not really his fault isit... Anelka demanded crazy wages at the age of 19 so Wenger sold him for 22 Million after buying him for 500k. Ashley Cole went and had an "illegal" meeting with Chelsea and totally disrespected the club. Adebayor... well we were sick of him riding his elephants to work and then shitting all over the pitch so fuck him.

When you look at all the players that have left Arsenal, there are only three players that have left during their peak years and they were ALL because of money. Flamini wanted £60,000/week after having one decent season, Anelka wanted to be one of the highest earners at the club, and Adebayor got a renewed contract, had his only breakout season and then wanted another renewed contract (which he got) and then showed lack of interest and was basically ineffective so he was sold.

Aside from those three players the rest have been sold when they were WELL passed their prime (Henry being the lone exception because I think he could still be banging in goals in the PL) and we had replacements for them already in the making.

Wenger's success has come with a budget half as good as Ferguson and mainly composed of players that most people had never heard of before he made them into household names.

A well deserved award in my opinion. Only issue I have is that Marcello Lippi should have been in the top 3 or 4 without a doubt. Absolute LEGEND in my opinion.

Wenger is class tbf, don't like the guy one bit, but what he done to make them invincibles was class, I obviously still believe Fergie should be number one, but wont be bitter about it. -_-

Not trophy wise, just for running a football club basically single handedly, having one of the best teams ever to grace the Premier League. He consistently challenges with such a limited budget, Arsenal are one of only five clubs since 2001 to make a profit in the transfer market.

It's just a shame the Invincibles never played that well in Europe Neutral

Why not? Winning it in one decade doesn't disqualify you from winning it again, does it? It should go to the best manager of the decade, plain and simple. I don't care if the guy has won it 5 decades in a row, if he was the best in that decade, then he should get the award.
